Caliber 9S63 is a significant addition to the ever growing Grand Seiko family of movements. It has been eight years since the last manual-winding mechanical caliber in Grand Seiko and it has been worth the wait. Caliber 9S63 offers a small seconds hand at the nine o’clock position and a power reserve indicator at three o’clock. Caliber 9S63 has a power reserve of 72 hours and delivers an accuracy rate of +5 to -3 seconds a day.
The expansion of the Elegance collection was a priority for Grand Seiko in 2019. The Japanese brand has always offered dress watches within its line-up, but it wasn't until the SBGK series, all powered by the new 9S63 caliber, debuted last year that it felt like the brand was conspicuously acknowledging the classic elements of the genre as a whole – think manually wound movements, slim cases with a high polish, and straightforward legibility.
While the SBGK series was initially characterized by its use of precious metals and the release of limited editions like the fan-favorite SBGK005, Grand Seiko closed 2019 out with the release of two production models in stainless steel, the SBGK007 and SBGK009.
